Long wait, but love the food! I got the tamales, and pupusas (pork, bean and cheese, zucchini, and loroco).

My friends and I LOVE coming here for some pupusas!! Their prices are super reasonable and I always leave content with a full stomach. Their pupusas are delicious! I usually order a cheese pupusa and a vegetable pupusa. They are very helpful and patient with me whenever I try to order something, especially since I'm not so familiar with El Salvadoran food and the Spanish language. I try to come here whenever I need a quick and fulfilling bite to eat!

Great Pupusas made on the spot!!

Dirt cheap! Tasty pupusas. Pros: -$17.50 for 2 people. That's 7 pupusas, a large tamale, 2 sodas, & 1 bottle of water. -The pupusas were good; the condiments provided--a tomato sauce (not spicy) and pickled veggies--were a nice compliment. -Like Terry B., we were the only white people in there. Definitely a good sign. -Many people in there seemed to be ordering soup. Dang, it looked good. Will have to try that next time. Cons: -Lost in translation: my guy ordered water. So they brought him bottled water. Not what he meant, so he then ordered a Coke and they brought him bottled water and a coke. Oh well. -The chicken tamale was HUGE. Twice the size of normal tamales, but not very tasty and there was bits of bone accidentally left in. -This restaurant is just a couple doors down from Tortacos, which we LOVE. I have a feeling we might only be coming here in the future when Tortacos is busy and has no tables.

Wow! I tried three different pupusas: cheese, cheese with chicharron, and cheese with zucchini. All of them were wonderful! They are made to order, and fantastic. I also tried the melon/pineapple juice and liked it a lot. Service was good, and my whole check, including tax, was $6.36!

My coworker told me about the Dona Azucena in Silver Spring and he told me that one opened up in Gaithersburg. I just tried it today and rushed here to write a review for it. I love pupusas. I've tried pupusas everywhere all over Montgomery County but these are the best I've tried. They are so full and have so much flavor. The masa de maÃz that they make the pupusas with was really really good. Not dry and flavorless like some. Also the chicken tamales were good and I liked the horchata a lot too. The pupusas I tried today had beans, pork, and cheese. Prices are awesome too. I can't wait to go back.

Pupuseria El Comalito is far superior to this place, and it's just up the road. Better food, and they don't screw up your take-out order then refuse to acknowledge it when you call them on it. Still, the food was OK and cheap.

You know what I like? When I go into an ethnic restaurant and I'm the only white person there. I experienced this for lunch the other day. (we were actually looking for another restaurant but couldn't find it...GPS be damned!) Anyway, I ordered the chicharron with fried yucca. In a word...delicious! The yucca was awesome, the horchata was awesome, the chicharron bits were great, the beans were awesome (have to order a side of them) and the pickled onions just added some great tang and texture. They give you way too much food for way too low of a price. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for something out of the ordinary. (and out of the ordinary applies to gringos)

My wife had a jones for papusas so based on other reviews we went here. I was the only gringo there so you know it's authentic. Everything is made to order and service was polite and relatively fast. We enjoyed everything we had.

This place is quite busy and we were most likely the only non salvadorian folks there. The Waiter was very nice and service was attentive. I do not think we were familiar enough with the cuisine and ended up ordering too many items which were fried. The papusa were tasty but oh so oily which I guess is to be expected. The fried Yucca was really delicious-very crisy and light unlike the fried yucca across the street at Peruvian chicken joint. The fried plantains were also very good and fresh, again not all clumped together and overdone like in other places. We will go back again and check it out - though next time we will try to order some of the main dishes which include items that are not fried. a good list of interesting drinks too. worth checking out dinner for four was 23 dollars!! you cannot beat that.

seems like it could be authentic. the menu is pretty small. few items. queso pupusa: fresh but not a lot of cheese. pasteles: greasy, dry, probably reheated. filling wasn't memorable. had their one beef dish, $9 gets you a thin slab of meat half a plate of iceburg, slice of tomato and cuke, and a fat ball of rice. tastes pretty good while it's still hot. i'd order a plate of platanos. the yucca seemed a little old (also possibly reheated). they have what they call traditional drinks (horchata, mariñon, tamarind, melon y piña) and a few dessert pastry items. i like drinking something different with non-american food. burger, soda. pupusa, juego de melon. and the service was polite and super-quick. i'd bring a smartphone if you want to look up anything, no one who came to our table spoke much english. (wasn't really a problem but some people like to ask lots of questions. don't get frustrated, you've been forewarned!) loudish music was cute, large windows = open space, decent value if you order the right amount and everything is fresh. not bad. honestly though, probably won't be back.

Ooh, that was really yummy. and I'm a vegetarian---at first I felt worried looking at the menu that the offerings were pretty limited, but we got and shared a collection of papusas and sides and it was totally wonderful. I'd never had papusas before and I really loved them. The melon drink was fantastic and pulpy. Sweetest plantains I've had. (deep fried and reminded me of something you could get at a state fair.) The slaw (I see it's called curdito) is also totally new to me, and I liked it a lot. happy. Maybe I'll even drive out from Baltimore again.

Stopped in to sample this place. It had me on the cumbia music, and it was all uphill after that. Ordered one pupusa for takeout, so can only judge the pork and cheese variety, but it was muy delicioso. I watched the nice lady make it, so I know it was very fresh. They give you a bag of vinegary cabbage and a separate bag of some type of tomato sauce (which I didn't open). All this for $1.50! I hope this place makes it. It deserves to.

great chicharonnes, cheese and beans pupusas. Have not had better and I now feel compelled to try the other locations. Nice clean new joint. seemed filled with locals, most speaking spanish. if you like pupusas--i'd come. and they are a buck and a half!
